The Marvel spin-off centred on Peggy Carter following the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and despite securing a loyal following it was cancelled after just two seasons. This was not the plan for the writers who had left the finale of season 2 on a cliffhanger with Thompson’s life hanging in the balance and other questions unanswered. “We’ve been planting seeds all season for a third season arc and it is obviously because somebody is coming in and stealing that M. Carter file,” producer Michele Fazekas said in 2016. “It’s very much tied to a third season arc.” At least Avengers: Endgame gave Peggy some form of closure.

The third season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones arrives on Netflix this Friday (14th June) but it will be a bittersweet conclusion for fans.

The streaming service confirmed the cancellation of the show back in February but the new season was already complete so the final episode ends on a cliffhanger that will likely never get resolved.
