When is A Haunting in Venice streaming on Disney+?

A Haunting in Venice is Kenneth Branagh's latest adaptation of the work of Agatha Christie, and this time he is bringing a decidedly more frightening story to the screen.

His previous film in the franchise, Death on the Nile, was marred by scandal when actor Armie Hammer was accused of sexual misconduct and abuse in 2021. The actor denied all accusations and in June 2023 it was confirmed he would not be charged with sexual abuse because of insufficient evidence.

Branagh has now moved past this scandal and is returning to the role of Belgian detective Hercule Poirot with another A-list cast by his side.

When will A Haunting in Venice be released on Disney+?

A Haunting in Venice will be available to stream on Disney+ from Wednesday, 22 November, having been released in UK cinemas on 15 September.

Branagh's two previous Christie adaptations, Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, are already streaming on Disney+. Both films are standalone whodunits, with Branagh's Poirot the only returning cast member, so you don't necessarily have to watch (or rewatch) them before A Haunting in Venice.

Which Agatha Christie novel is the film based on?

Based on Christie's 1969 crime novel Hallowe'en Party and adapted by Michael Green, Branagh is giving his own spin on the tale by transferring the narrative from England to Venice and giving it a supernatural twist.

The film finds Poirot in retirement and living in an exile of his own making after World War II, but when a good friend Ariadne Oliver asks him to attend a seance he reluctantly agrees.

There he witnesses supernatural events that appear as if they can't be explained, and when one of the guests is murdered Poirot decides to do all that he can to investigate.

Is it worth watching?

With reviews materialising for Branagh's latest outing as Hercule Poirot, it's time to find out whether it's a crack case or a sleuth-based stinker.

Yahoo UK's own review commended director-star Branagh for not sticking too closely to the original source material and putting his own spin on the mystery. The Evening Standard suggested that it was the filmmaker's best Poirot outing so far but that didn't stop them from taking its script and characters to task a tad.

Elsewhere, Total Film says the film is filled with chuckles and chills, with The Independent praising its attention to detail, including its production design and costumes.

Who's in the cast?

Branagh is ensuring that he gets his little grey cells working by taking on the dual role of actor and director once more.

He is joined by Michelle Yeoh and Tina Fey, who play psychic Joyce Reynolds and Poirot's writer friend Ariadne Oliver respectively.

The cast also includes Kelly Reilly, Jamie Dornan, Emma Laird, Camille Cottin, Kyle Allen, and Jude Hill.

Is there a trailer?

A chilling trailer was released for A Haunting in Venice on 19 July which gave viewers a glimpse of the horrors that Poirot is facing in Venice.

Seemingly haunted by the spirits of the dead, Poirot can be seen struggling as he tries to get to the bottom of the mystery without losing his mind.
