The first big screen outing of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme just added some serious muscle.

The Wrap have revealed that the martial artist and actor Scott Adkins has signed on to appear alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejifor and Mads Mikkelsen in the in-production film from director Scott Derrickson (’Sinister’).

Cumberbatch takes the lead as a brilliant neurosurgeon who becomes a master of ‘the mystic arts’ following a career-ending injury. However, the details of Adkins’ role have not been revealed.

All The Wrap can tell us is that “insiders suggest he’ll have several major action scenes featuring hand-to-hand combat” - to which Adkins fans everywhere reply, “d’uh!”

Though not exactly a household name just yet, Adkins has become a highly revered figure among action movie aficionados in recent years.

The Sutton Coldfield-born 39-year old has lent his mix of martial arts expertise and movie star charisma to leading roles in a slew of above-average straight to DVD beat-’em-ups including ‘Ninja: Shadow of a Tear,’ ‘El Gringo’ and ‘Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning’ (for which you can see the trailer below).

His more mainstream work includes supporting parts in ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ and ‘The Expendables 2.’

We’ve also speculated that he might be a good choice to play the next James Bond, though he’s hardly the bookie’s favourite.

‘Doctor Strange’ is due to hit cinemas in November 2016.
