What we know about the Alien: Romulus sequel
A sequel to Fede Alvarez's Alien movie is in the works
Alien: Romulus gave the iconic sci-fi franchise a new lease of life and 20th Century Studios is ready to keep the spin-off story going as a result.
Fede Alvarez came on as director to deliver a new narrative around a group of orphan miners who try to escape their circumstances by looting a mysterious spaceship. However, what they don't count on is said ship being infested with facehuggers, and later Xenomorphs, which trap them in a nightmarish prison they have to escape from.
The Alien movie ends on a dramatic note, with only a few of the characters making it out alive of the spaceship but it seems their story could well be far from over. Here is everything that we know about the Alien: Romulus sequel.
Will there be an Alien: Romulus sequel?
Yes, the good news is that 20th Century is actively pursuing an Alien: Romulus sequel with Alvarez once again after it became a box office hit, 20th Century president Steve Asbell told The Hollywood Reporter.
Asbell explained: "We’re working on a sequel idea now. We haven’t quite closed our deal with Fede, but we are going to, and he has an idea that we’re working on.
"The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, 'Wow, where do people want to see them go next?' We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is."
Who will star in the Alien: Romulus sequel?
Given Asbell's comments about the potential next chapter in the story, it seems a safe bet to expect Spaeny and Johnsson to return as Rain and her robot companion Andy. The pair were the only two to survive their encounter with the human-xenomorph hybrid that was born at the end of the film.

It is unclear who else might appear in the film alongside them, but following the success of the original there may well be a few big names to appear.
Also, given the movie included the late Ian Holm through CGI it is entirely possible that other original Alien stars could star in the movie. Since Alien: Romulus is set between the first two Alien movies it is possible for Sigourney Weaver to return as Ripley.
When will the Alien: Romulus sequel be released?
As the film is only in the pre-production phase there is no information on when it will reach cinemas, though this is likely to be confirmed once a deal has been made with Alvarez.
