Alison Brie recounts embarrassing bathroom story from 'Mad Men' set
Alison Brie has admitted she experienced a very embarrassing “peeing incident” while in full costume on the set of Mad Men.
The 38-year-old star broke out with her role as Trudy Campbell in the award-winning advertising industry drama, but she had a major mishap during one of her early days on the set.
She told the Life is Short podcast that a period-accurate 1960s girdle she was given to wear caused problems.

Brie described the garment as “biker shorts that go all the way up to your ribs”, explaining they had a small hole in them to use for going to the toilet.
“I didn't know for the first season that you weren't supposed to wear underwear under them because they are underwear,” she said. “But I was just trying to respect the wardrobe and that feels gross.”

Brie revealed that she was mortified when she visited the bathroom without correctly navigating her multiple layers of underwear.
“I tried to pull the hole open, but I didn't pull my underwear to the side so I'm peeing and not hearing it hit the bowl and then I just feel warmth,” she said. “It was full pee.”

Brie said she subsequently panicked and “dabbed it with a bunch of toilet paper” before returning to set, fearing she would lose her job if she held up filming.
Fortunately for the actor, a costume designer intervened when she noticed something was wrong and reassured Brie that this was not an uncommon issue for performers working with similar outfits.
While appearing in Mad Men, Brie secured the role of Annie in the NBC sitcom Community, for which she was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award.
Brie has since become a stalwart of films and TV, including as the lead of Netflix drama GLOW — set within the world of professional wrestling in the 1980s.
