Almost No Men Went To See Magic Mike XXL

If you were a woman in the US this weekend, chances are you went to see Channing Tatum and co. shake their booty.

If you didn’t, well, you were the only one of your friends not to.

The male stripper sequel pulled some staggering open day numbers in the US this week with a 96 per cent female audience.

That makes it more female-centric box office-wise than ‘Sex and the City 2’ (which, at 94 per cent was the previous record holder) and ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ (90 per cent).

Yep, more men were happy to watch Sarah Jessica Parker and friends be unfunnily indulgent in the Middle East than go watch Channing thrust his nads in someone’s face a second time.

Unfortunately for Chan and distributor Warner Bros., the ladies didn’t stick around. According to Deadline, despite awarding the movie an A- review on metrics site Cinemascore, the movie stalled over the weekend, making £7.7million for a weekly total of £17.3m.

Nevertheless, it’s likely the film will end up making a good profit, since it only cost about £9.5m.

Still, they say that Hollywood studios spend their entire time trying to convince teenage boys to see their films. ‘Magic Mike XXL’ won’t be the pic which woos them away from their Xboxes.

While the audience for Steven Soderbergh’s darkly witty 2012 original was 27 per cent male, the incredible data for ‘Magic Mike XXL’ –– demonstrate just how little the follow-up appealed to blokes.
