Anthony Mackie has provided a tantalizing update on the upcoming Disney+ TV series Falcon And The Winter Soldier, suggesting that most Marvel fans might be in for a surprise when it is finally released.

Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Falcon opposite Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the huge anticipated show, which is set to pick up after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Watch: Chris Evans to return as Captain America?

Those of you that saw the most successful film of all time will be well aware that, at the end of Endgame, Chris Evans’ Captain America handed over his shield to Falcon.

So most viewers have assumed that Falcon is now the defacto replacement for Captain America. However, Mackie’s comments suggest that might not exactly be the case.

After being asked about the upcoming series by Barstool Sports’ Lights, Camera, Barstool podcast, Mackie teased, "It's interesting knowing what happens in the show because a lot of people are like, 'Oh, you're Captain America.' I'm like, 'That's not true.’”

“If you look at the end of Endgame, Sam never accepts the shield. There's no… out of all the Marvel movies that have been made, there's always been a photograph of something leaked of the costume, where it's like, 'Here's what he's gonna look like!' You didn't see anything leaked about me."

After these comments Mackie then, rather wisely, decided to keep his mouth shut, as he told the podcast, "You just have to wait and be patient,” before then declaring, "You don't know who Captain America is gonna be, and that's what's so great about it."

We’ll finally find out who Captain America is when Falcon And The Winter Soldier is released onto Disney+ on March 19.
