Anyone But You has been a major topic of conversation in the entertainment world, though perhaps for unexpected reasons.

The romantic comedy has kept in the news after romance rumours began to surface between its two leads, and also after it appeared the advertising campaign for the film had been parodied by, or had copied, the one for Paramount+ series The Curse.

Reviews for Anyone But You started to appear online in December with many critics calling it a fun but forgettable jaunt.

The Guardian suggested the casting of its main couple may be a little distracting, pointing out that traditionally "romcom leads have been closer to class clown and girl next door than jock and prom queen."

Elsewhere, IndieWire's write-up commended its stars' enthusiasm, saying they're "both game for anything... this story is packed with emergency stripping, multiple air-rescues, and frequent swims through shark-infested waters."

However, their critic also added that it wasn't quite enough to save the day: "Eagerness alone can only go so far, and the two leads aren’t equally well-suited to satisfy the demands of this vintage genre exercise."

Anyone But You is led by Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, who have been the subject of romance rumours since filming began on the project. Sweeney, who is engaged to Jonathan Davino, laughed off the idea in August and said she and Powell "don't really care" about being the subject of such rumours.

In an interview with Women's Health, Sweeney said of her co-star: "Getting to work with Glen, I'll never forget this one... I hope the audience can actually feel the love and fun we all shared making this film.

"That's something I always feel from my favorite rom-coms-the joy and energy shared amongst the cast and crew, and I was lucky enough to experience that on this film."

Directed by Will Gluck, Anyone But You is an R-rated rom-com centred on Bea and Ben, two people who had a great first date but whose fiery passion quickly cooled thereafter.

Despising each other, the pair are unfortunately faced with one another again at a destination wedding in Sydney, Australia, so they decide to pretend to be a couple.

Yes, several trailers have been released for Anyone But You. The most recent of which caused some controversy because of how similar the ad campaign for Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder's Paramount+ series The Curse was to it.
