Avengers: Infinity War featurette announces production on Marvel's biggest movie yet
Are you excited? I’m excited. Sorry, can’t quite find the words right now because I’m too excited.
It’s official: cameras are rolling on ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ the epic comic book movie that the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building up to thus far – and as proof, Marvel have released this short but oh-so sweet featurette from the set of the production.
And what better way to grab our attention than to show us Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland and Chris Pratt – Iron Man, Spider-Man and Star-Lord – standing side by side on the set of what looks to be some sort of weird alien landscape?
We also get a look at some pretty tasty concept art for the film, as producer/Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, directors Joe and Anthony Russo and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely discuss what audiences can look forward to.
Feige explains, “‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as started in May of 2008 with the release of ‘Iron Man 1,’ and it really is an unprecedented culmination of a series of films interlinked together, which at the time had never been done before.”
Of Thanos (Josh Brolin), the mighty super-villain that Marvel have been building up to since 2012’s ‘Avengers Assemble,’ Feige promises the antagonist will “[show] us why he’s the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had, and the most frightening villain that the Avengers have ever faced.”
The divisions that have set in with the Avengers thanks to ‘Captain America: Civil War’ will ensure that Thanos finds Earth’s Mightiest Heroes at their least mighty, making the fight that bit tougher for them – although, of course, the Avengers will have some pretty significant assistance in the form of Marvel’s cosmic super-team, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Whilst there is no footage of the two teams in action side by side just yet, this concept art of Thor and Rocket Raccoon fighting side by side should be enough to send Marvel fans giddy with anticipation:
I’ll say it again: are you excited? Because I’m excited. If you’re a Marvel fan in any capacity, we defy you to say you’re not excited.
But of course, we’ll have to contain our excitement, as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is only a few weeks into principal photography, and won’t hit UK cinema screens until 27 April 2018.
In the meantime, keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe when ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ – which just got a very rare 100% score in a US test screening – opens on 28 April, followed by ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ on 7 July, and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ on 27 October.
