How to watch the Oscars 2025 in the UK
Film fans, get ready for a late night as the 97th Academy Awards airs on ITV.
It's been an Oscars year like no other, with nominations delayed twice in the wake of the devastating LA wildfires. However, the 97th Academy Awards will go ahead as planned, and UK film fans will be able to watch the ceremony unfold on ITV1 and ITVX.
For the second year running, the broadcaster has been named the UK home of Oscars coverage, with a huge range of programming and content for the run up to the event and throughout the night.
Here's all you need to know about how to watch the Oscars 2025 as a UK viewer.
How to watch the Oscars 2025
The good news for UK viewers is that you won't need any special subscriptions to follow all of the envelope openings and fashion moments on the red carpet.
ITV has been announced as the official UK home of the Oscars and will air coverage on ITV1 and ITVX for the Sunday, 2 March ceremony. Exact air times are yet to be confirmed, but last year live coverage began from 11pm.
The most exciting night of the year in Hollywood will be completely free to air and offers a host of expert presenters and commentators, including Jonathan Ross as host of ITV's coverage and Ross King live from the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre.
You can tune into Oscars fever well before the stars start arriving at the ceremony, as ITV shows including Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will all feature Oscars news and updates.
Over on ITVX, film fans can indulge in behind-the-scenes footage, nominee packages, Oscar-winning film collections and updates from the red carpet. Meanwhile, the Oscars 24/7 Channel will feature Oscar-winning and nominated movies from previous years, including Gone Girl, L.A. Confidential, Drive and The Help.
ITV viewers should also look out for the rescheduled nominations, which will finally be unveiled on Thursday, 23 January at 1:10pm on ITVX, hosted by ITV News journalists Lucrezia Millarini and Nina Nannar.
Who is hosting the 2025 Oscars?
The 2025 Oscars will be hosted by late-night frontman Conan O’Brien. He said: “America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.”
Oscars executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan said: “Conan has all the qualities of a great Oscars host — he is incredibly witty, charismatic and funny and has proven himself to be a master of live event television.
“We are so looking forward to working with him to deliver a fresh, exciting and celebratory show for Hollywood’s biggest night.”
Jimmy Kimmel previously helmed the ceremony in 2023 and 2024, as well as in 2017 and 2018 and again in 2023 and 2024. He was present during the now-infamous Best Picture slip-up in 2017 where the musical La La Land was mistakenly announced as the winner instead of the drama Moonlight.
Who are the 2025 Oscars nominees?
The nominations for the 2025 Oscars will be unveiled on 23 January 2025, following two delays as wildfires raged through Los Angeles.
Oscars voting officially closed on 12 January and nominations were originally due on 17 January, but were pushed back to 19 and then 23 as many of those connected to the film industry, as well as the area surrounding Hollywood, were affected by the fires.
Until the announcement, we won’t know for sure who might be in the running for the night’s biggest awards. However, 2024 was a year of interesting releases, with many outlets suggesting films like Sean Baker’s Anora, Netflix musical Emilia Perez, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 and James Mangold’s Bob Dylan movie A Complete Unknown could be in the running.
However, at this stage, it really is anyone’s guess as to who might win big.
The 2025 Oscars will take place on Sunday 2 March.
