Barbie is almost here and we finally have the first reactions to one of the year's most-anticipated movies.

The iconic doll comes to life in the all-star movie from Greta Gerwig as Barbie (Margot Robbie) leaves Barbie Land for the first time to see the real world, with the ever-faithful Ken (Ryan Gosling) by her side.

Barbie received its world premiere last night (July 9) in Los Angeles and those lucky few in attendance have taken to social media to share their first reactions. So, does the new movie live up to the anticipation?

It seems critics are very much taken with Gerwig's Barbie film, with Variety's Katcy Stephan calling it nothing short of "perfection".

"Greta Gerwig delivers a nuanced commentary on what it means to be a woman in a whimsical, wonderful and laugh-out-loud funny romp," she wrote on Twitter. "The entire cast shines, especially Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in roles they were clearly born to play."

Pay or Wait's Sharronda Wiliams agrees that the performances from the movie's leading man and lady help make it shine.

"Ryan Gosling is a scene stealer delivering most of the laughs while Margot Robbie’s heartfelt performance will tug at your heartstrings," she shares online.

She goes on to describe it as "witty, heartfelt, and downright fun at times", though the "screenplay feels bloated at times".

ComicBook.com's Jamie Jirak was similarly won over by a certain Ken. "Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, I'm dead serious!" she wrote on Twitter. "I can't officially quit Twitter before telling you all that #Barbie is currently my favorite film of the year. Greta Gerwig somehow exceeded my expectations."

Joseph Deckelmeier of Screenrant hailed the doll movie as a "home-run" for Greta Gerwig. "It’s funny, bombastic, & very smart," he voiced online, whilst The Curvy Critic Carla Renata hailed it as "overblown fun with a feminist twist".

Finally, Ty Cole of America's Premiere African American Film Critics Association reflected on the message Barbie successfully sends to it's audience. "A lot of us strive to be “perfect” like Barbie, but the film will show you don’t always have to be so perfect, because even in a “perfect world,” we still have flaws and that’s okay," they tweeted.

Ahead of its release, Barbie has been confirmed to be 114 minutes long and rated 12A in the UK for "moderate innuendo" and "dangerous behaviour" (a child melting a doll's hair), among other things.

Of course, what people have been talking about since that main trailer is the viral foot scene that sees Barbie step out of her high heels and maintain the same arch as her toes touch the floor.

And if you were wondering, that was all Robbie's work. "I walked up, we had little sticky bits on the floor, for the double-sided tape for the shoes so they wouldn't come off – so I could get my feet out of them," she explained.

"I was holding onto a bar, but that's it. I wasn't in a harness or anything like that. I just walked up, kind of held onto the bar above camera."

Robbie has also been talking about having to fight for one particular Barbie scene that Mattel's COO and president wasn't convinced about as he thought it was off-brand.

We'll have to wait and see which scene that was, but at least we don't have too long left to wait.

Barbie is released in cinemas on July 21.
