Batman V Superman: Robin’s Identity Revealed

It looks as though we finally know who Robin is in ‘Batman V Superman’.

His costume may have made an appearance in ‘Batman V Superman’ but poor Robin was nowhere to be seen. And it seems that Batman’s former sidekick was probably bumped off way before the events of ‘Batman V Superman’.

But who was he? It seems we might finally have that answer…

A new video from the Warner Bros. Studio Tour (which has now been removed) has finally revealed Robin’s identity…

And it confirms a long-standing rumour that he was, in fact, Jason Todd.

“This was one of the big things from Batman v Superman, right across this way,” explained the Tour Guide. “The Jason Todd Robin suit. Spray painted on the front ‘Ha ha! The joke’s on you Batman.’ Those of you that know the storyline, know what happened to this Robin.”

Jason Todd made his first appearance as Batman’s sidekick back in 1983… and was the second character to take the mantle of ‘Robin’ following on from the iconic Dick Grayson.

But with the character proving to be unpopular, readers were given the opportunity to decide his fate via a telephone poll… and he was eventually bumped off in the four-part story, ‘A Death in the Family’.

Of course, in ‘Batman V Superman’ his death is acknowledged by the appearance of his costume – located on a pedestal in the Batcave and riddled with bullet holes. It’s likely that Robin’s death is one of the factors that drove Ben Affleck’s Batman to become so cruel. And then there’s the graffiti, which hints towards his death at the hands of The Joker.

But could Robin return?

Although Jason Todd was killed off in the comic books, he eventually returned in 2005 as the Red Hood – a mysterious antihero who was finally revealed to be the former-Robin, brought back to life by Talia al Ghul in the Lazarus Pit. And it seems he has a score to settle – beating the Joker with a crowbar in the same way that he was tortured by the villain before he died.

Will any of this make it to the big screen?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but with rumours that Jason Todd may have even become The Joker himself, it looks as though he’s going to be a very interesting character.

If we get to see him alive, of course.

‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ opened in cinemas on 25 March 2016.
