Eddie Murphy has said that a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie will be on the way, once he’s finished Coming 2 America, the Coming To America sequel.

In a full career regression, Murphy also confirmed that he is planning some comeback stand-up gigs too.

Confirming the BHC4 news to Collider, he said: “Yeah that’s what we’re doing after Coming to America 2.

“We’re doing Beverly Hills Cop and then the plan is to get back on stage and do standup. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly is standup.

“These movies and Saturday Night Live it’s kind of like… I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decided I wanted to stay on the couch forever, I ended it on a funny note.”

The first Beverly Hills Cop movie arrived in 1984 (after Sylvester Stallone passed on the role), in which Murphy played Axel Foley, a Detroit detective and general fish out of water investigating a murder in upscale Beverly Hills.

Produced by the legendary pairing of Simpson and Bruckheimer, it spawned two less successful sequels, but coupled with Murphy's starring roles in 48 Hrs and Trading Places cemented his place as one of the biggest movie stars in the world at time.

Beverly Hills Cop II was followed by Coming To America in 1988, a sequel for which began production over the summer, and will land in December, 2020.

A fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie has been in the offing since the mid-90s, but after the third movie, directed by John Landis, tanked in comparison to the first two instalments, it was shelved.

Plans would occasionally bubble up again from Bruckheimer, and then from Brett Ratner, but they also failed to materialise, as did a Beverly Hills Cop TV series which was set for CBS with Murphy playing the chief of police, with his son as a detective.

Murphy recently released his first film in three years, Dolemite Is My Name, about the blaxploitation filmmaker Rudy Ray Moore, to widespread acclaim.
