Beverly Hills Cop duo recall "magical" reunion with Eddie Murphy

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F doesn't just bring back Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, but also several other characters from the original trilogy.

Most importantly, Axel will reunite with Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) when he returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter Jane's (Taylour Paige) life is threatened.

We've seen in the trailers that one particular sequence sees the trio back in a car as if it was Beverly Hills Cop all over again.

As much as fans are delighted to see them reunite, it was as enjoyable for the stars.

"That was a magical night for all three of us. We hadn't been together in years, and that night we shot that was the first night we'd been together, and Jerry [Bruckheimer] was there," Reinhold recalled to Digital Spy.

"The chemistry was still there, and it was very special to know that we picked up where we left off."

John Ashton added: "It's really nice knowing your character and being able to fall into them. It's a great feeling. As soon as we got into that car, the three of us, we were right there. 40 years had gone by, and we were right there."

The new movie isn't just about the classic characters, though, as Axel has to reluctantly team up with Detective Bobby Abbott to help his daughter.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes on the task of being Axel's new sidekick Abbott, and it proved to be every bit as enjoyable as he hoped.

"For me, Beverly Hills Cop was something I grew up with when I was young that my older brother turned me onto. I was probably too young to be watching it, but when you're that age, what your older sibling likes takes on a certain ultra-cool mystique," he noted.

"When I got the opportunity to play the new sidekick to Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop, I was really, really stoked, and certainly my expectations were high. I will tell you, as a fan of these movies and a fan of Eddie Murphy, this Beverly Hills Cop movie delivers."

At least we don't have to wait too long to find out ourselves, as the new Beverly Hills Cop movie lands on Netflix next week.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is released on Netflix on July 3.
