Bird Box Barcelona's Georgina Campbell teases major twist

Netflix's horror spin-off Bird Box Barcelona has a doozy of a twist up its sleeve.

Premiering on the streaming platform later this week, the Spanish movie centres on Sebastián (played by Mario Casas) and his daughter Sophia (Naila Schuberth) as they wander an apocalypse trying to avoid creatures that make people kill themselves.

In a Digital Spy exclusive, actress Georgina Campbell (fellow survivor Claire) was asked about an early twist that completely changes the story.

"I don't think I remember," she said, discussing her reaction to reading the script.

"When you get sent scripts, they usually give you a little synopsis so usually you know what's kind of coming. But I do remember that I saw it with my mum a couple of weeks ago, we got a screener, and my mum, her reaction, she just lost her mind."

"She couldn't believe it," the Barbarian star added.

"She was so confused and then upset and then excited because it opens the film up in a completely different way. So it was fun watching it through her eyes and seeing her go on that journey."

Diego Calva, who portrays Octavio in the movie, couldn't recall his initial response to the shocking twist either.

"But I want to see my mum's reaction now, I will love that," he joked.

Barcelona was preceded by 2018's Sandra Bullock film Bird Box, which itself was based on Josh Malerman's novel of the same name.

Bird Box Barcelona is released on Netflix this Friday (July 14).
