The first trailer for Black Mirror season 5 has arrived, teasing a star-studded cast that includes Fleabag’s Andrew Scott.

The trailer for the upcoming season, which will consist of three new stories from Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, also features pop singer Miley Cyrus, Avengers: Endgame actor Anthony Mackie and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Pom Klementieff.

Other stars include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, Damson Idris, Nicole Beharie, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport and Ludi Lin.

The trailer also confirmed that season 5 will arrive on Netflix on 5 June.

The series looks set to make an adrenaline-filled return after the experimental, interactive episode Bandersnatch, with the season 5 trailer teasing yet more technophobic horror.

The trailer opens with Scott’s character, who appears to have been driven crazy by everyone’s obsession with their mobile phones, nervously tapping his foot as he holds someone hostage in the back of his car and the police attempt to negotiate with him. He’s then seen firing a gun in the air as bystanders record on their smartphones.

Mackie looks as though he’ll be involved in an infidelity storyline as his character is seen swiping through images of another woman on his phone. He’s then probed by his wife who questions if he’s still attracted to her.

The trailer ends with an exciting-looking sequence in which Klementieff’s character dons a virtual reality headset and enters a Dead Or Alive-esque fighting game.

The new series comes just six months after the standalone, interactive episode Bandersnatch, which allowed Netflix users to control the fate of the main character by choosing from a number of options. The ‘choose-you-own-adventure’ special could last for minutes or hours, depending on the decisions the viewer made.
