Ana de Armas becomes Marilyn Monroe in trailer for Netflix movie 'Blonde'

Ana de Armas's transformation into Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe takes centre stage in the trailer for upcoming Netflix drama Blonde.
The movie, adapted from a novel by Joyce Carol Oates, is a fictionalised spin on the life of the Hollywood icon — who was born Norma Jeane Mortenson — focusing on the exploitation and abuse she struggled with throughout her career.

The cast also includes the likes of Bobby Cannavale and Adrien Brody as Monroe's husbands Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller respectively.
Netflix is set to release Blonde in September after a premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it will be a part of the competition for the Golden Lion.
The film will receive an NC-17 certificate in America due to graphic sexual content, therefore becoming the first movie with that classification to be released by Netflix.
NC-17 is a rough equivalent to the 18 rating in the UK, though NC-17 movies are rare due to the fact many cinema chains refuse to show them.

The trailer contrasts images of Monroe at the height of her Hollywood fame in films like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and The Seven-Year Itch with depictions of the darker side of the star's life.
Speaking about the film earlier this year, De Armas said: "We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame is what made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible."
Dominik, whose last fiction feature was 2012 thriller Killing Them Softly, has voiced his displeasure at the film receiving such a restrictive age rating.
He said that one of the reasons the movie was rated NC-17 was likely the inclusion of a rape scene lifted directly from Oates's novel.

Dominik told Screen: "It’s a demanding movie. If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f***ing audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office."
Blonde is set to be released on Netflix in the UK from 28 September.
