Xolo Maridueña is sharing with Blue Beetle fans why he won't be able to promote the film's cinema release.

The DCU movie is one of many that could be released in the middle of an actor and writer's strike in Hollywood, unless the matter is resolved before Blue Beetle's release on August 18.

The lead time of promotion means Xolo and his cast mates would usually be starting promotion for the project this week, but now those plans have been scrapped.

Like all US union actors, Xolo assured fans that he will be "striking in solidarity" with the Writer's Guild of America — though both groups have unique terms to end the strike.

"The people who are asking to live, and work and thrive in the business should be allowed to," he told his followers in a video.

Xolo reiterated that because of the on-going strike, he would not be able to promote Blue Beetle – as union actors are barred from promotion until the strike is resolved.

"We had so much great stuff aligned and I really wish that we could get it to you guys, but we need to stand on the right side of history," he said. "Because of that, we're planting our feet on the ground."

In spite of the developments around the film's release, Xolo encouraged fans that Blue Beetle "needs to be seen on the biggest screen" because it's "a fantastic movie".

Xolo wrote in a caption for the video that he feels "appreciative and honored" to have brought the superhero origin of Jaime Reyes to the big screen for the first time.

"To my beautiful cast mates, thank you so much for being the reason I am here, I stand on your shoulders and this movie is incomplete without you," he wrote on social media.

"To the wonderful crew that welcomed me to this new world, thank you for your hospitality and kindness, you all are the only people for the jobs. And finally to [director Angel Manuel Soto], thank you for being the best papa out there, to have collaborated on this with you is an experience I will hold forever in my heart and I can’t wait to f**king do it again. You are my rock. To the blue beetle battalion I love y’all. See y’all in the theater."

The film holds a hugely important place in new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran's revamp of DC, as Gunn has confirmed Blue Beetle is the first official character in the new DCU.

Blue Beetle is out in cinemas on August 18, 2023.
