Yahoo Movies 'Bodyguard's Richard Madden thanks parents for flying in from Scotland as he scoops Golden Globe
British star Richard Madden struck gold at the Golden Globes last night, scooping a gong for his role in the BBC hit Bodyguard.
He won the Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Drama award, the first Globe of his career, for playing damaged war veteran turned close protection officer David Budd.
The former Game of Thrones actor fended off competition from Jason Bateman in Ozark, Stephan James in Homecoming, Billy Porter in Pose, and Matthew Rhys in The Americans.
On picking up the award on stage, he said: “Thank you very much to the HFPA, I didn’t see this coming at all.
“I want to thank you to [co-star] Keeley Hawes. She’s the best actress I could ever work with. She’s amazing and generous… And Jed Mercurio, thanks for writing this!
“Thanks for trusting me to do it. You’re amazing. Thank you.”
He also thanked his parents, who had flown in from Scotland specially for the ceremony in Beverly Hills.
“Most importantly, I want to thank my friends and my family,” he added. “Mum and dad, who flew all the way from Scotland, I wouldn’t be here without you!”
A sequel to the ratings hit is expected, with Madden having confirmed that meetings have taken place with Mercurio, also the creator of Line of Duty.
