Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds will have a joint memorial service

While Christmas is meant to be a happy time of year, the film world was left devastated this week when ‘Star Wars’ icon Carrie Fisher and her mother, legendary Hollywood royalty Debbie Reynolds, both died within days of each other.

Family, fans, fellow professional, and people in general were left grieving as they paid tribute to the stars who sadly passed away, with an out-pour of mourning that will continue into 2017.

It’s been reported that, according to the Guardian, the family of the beloved mother and daughter will hold a joint memorial service to celebrate their lives. Carrie’s brother, Todd, said to the New York Daily News: “It’s what we want to do, but we’re still working on the mechanics. We like the idea, if it’s at all possible. I think it’s appropriate.”

Fisher, who was 60, fell ill just prior to Christmas Day, having been rushed to hospital after taking ill and suffering a heart attack on board a plane. Since being admitted on the 23 December, reports suggested her condition was improving and was stable by Boxing Day. Sadly she passed away the next day in Los Angeles. Her mother, silver screen icon Debbie Reynolds – famed for her classic roles in the likes of ‘Singin’ int the Rain’ – passed away on 28 December, aged 84 after suffering a severe stroke.

It’s a fitting tribute that the pair are celebrated together, as they were both publicly and privately very close and much loved.
