Star Wars: Carrie Fisher’s Daughter Has Inherited Leia’s Bun Hair

Considering the fact that they’re mother and daughter, rumours that Billie Lourd might pop up as the offspring of Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ have been swirling ever since the 23-year-old was cast.

Billie Lourd has now insisted to People magazine that her role isn’t that of Leia’s daughter, but pictures of her character prove that her hairdo has at least been inspired by her mother’s in the original films.

Princess Leia’s bouffant in ‘Star Wars’ is, arguably, the most famous in movie history, and clearly the team behind ‘The Force Awakens’ couldn’t resist the opportunity to pay homage to it through Fisher’s own daughter.

We’re still not exactly sure who Billie Lourd, who made her acting debut in TV’s ‘Scream Queens’ earlier this year, is playing in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, as her role is yet to be announced by Lucasfilm.

However the new images from People suggest that she is going to be in heart of the battle against the First Order and Kylo Ren, as she’s seen in uniformed, military-esque attire, while at the controls of a station in a bunker and wearing a headset.

And while there could be calls that Lourd’s casting was only a result of nepotism, in her interview with People she explained how deep her devotion to the original films are, insisting that she used to make her mom “watch it at least once a week,” before admitting that she used to “get in a lightsaber fight” with her for fun too.

Lourd also spoke about how empowering it was to see her mother up onscreen as Leia being just as “confident and strong” as her male counterparts.

We’ll finally see if Billie Lourd can match the lightsaber wielding antics of her mother in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ when it is released in the UK on December 17.
