According to Deadline, the iconic ‘Star Wars’ actress – who returned to the franchise in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ – has a much large role in the upcoming sequel… and it seems all of her scenes have already been filmed.

“For Episode VIII, Leia had a larger role, we’re told, and her daughter, Billie Lourd also is in that film as well as in Force Awakens,” they explained. “How Lucasfilm will deal with the loss of one of the most beloved female characters in any franchise is not known, however, and the company is remaining mum.”

Of course, it’s still early days.

Carrie Fisher died just two days ago on 27 December 2016, and let’s face it – her friends at Disney and Lucasfilm will still be coming to terms with the tragic loss, let alone making a plan for the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ franchise.

Still, at least we get to spend a bit more time with everyone’s favourite princess.

“Carrie Fisher […] had already completed the next feature in the franchise, Star Wars: Episode VIII, a source close to the production told Deadline,” they confirmed. “It was expected the actress would return for Star Wars: Episode IX, but that won’t be shooting for about a year.”

What will happen to the Resistance in her absence? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

But she’ll always be royalty to us.

‘Star Wars 8’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
