Casey Affleck has denied claims it was him who was seen throwing a cardboard cutout of Ana de Armas into the rubbish outside his brother’s house in the wake of their break-up.

Speculation about the younger Affleck tossing out the cutout proved to be fodder for plenty of memes on social media, but the star has now made it clear he wasn’t involved.

The 45-year-old star told ET that the man in the pictures was not him and hinted that the couple could reconcile after their split earlier this month.

“That's not me, and I can't even really say if they have totally broken up for good or whatever,” said Affleck.

He added: "A bunch of people sent that picture to me and I was gonna tweet some, like, joke, response or something.

“And then I couldn't think of one and a joke didn't seem appropriate. And I don't have Twitter so that wasn't going to work. But it definitely wasn't me."

The younger Affleck spoke positively about de Armas and suggested she could be on course for an Oscar for her upcoming performance as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde.

He said: "I think she's a catch in every way. And I'll be there to carry Ben through it, but I don't think he'll have any problems [either].

"I think she's really, really great. People don't know her too well because she hasn't, like, been out there [in the spotlight] for so long.

“But she's just incredibly sweet, such a sweet person and so talented."

Ben Affleck and de Armas first began dating in the early part of 2020 after they met on the set of director Adrian Lyne’s psychological thriller Deep Water.

The movie, due to be released in August, also stars Tracy Letts, Lil Rel Howery and Finn Wittrock.

As well as her performance as Monroe, de Armas will also be seen alongside Daniel Craig in his final James Bond movie — No Time to Die — which was recently delayed again until October.

Affleck, meanwhile, will appear as Batman in the Snyder Cut of Justice League this year and has completed filming the role of King Charles VI in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel.
