After plenty of rumours, Marvel has finally announced ‘Black Panther’… and none other than Chadwick Boseman will appear in the title role.

Announced during a special event at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, Marvel revealed ‘Black Panther’ to a deliriously excited audience… announcing that Chadwick Boseman will appear as T’Challa – the world’s first black superhero in print, and now Marvel’s first black superhero to get his own MCU solo film.

After announcing a slew of other new superhero movies, Marvel Studios brought the new Black Panther – Chadwick Boseman – out on the stage, alongside Marvel poster boys, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

Of course, Chadwick Boseman is perhaps best known for portraying American baseball player Jackie Robinson in the film ‘42’ and James Brown in ‘Get On Up’. But it looks as though he’s taking a break from biographical movies to don the rather epic-looking Black Panther suit.

It was then revealed that Boseman would appear alongside Iron Man and Captain America in the upcoming ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

“We will see Black Panther in Civil War in costume,” said Marvel boss, Kevin Feige. But when the crowd taunted Boseman to pick a side, it seems he might have his own stance in the upcoming hero conflict.

“Black Panther is kind of his own guy,” he said.

Black Panther is well-known amongst Marvel fans as the first black superhero in mainstream American comic books. Hailing from the African nation of Wakanda, he eventually teamed up with The Avengers… and that’s likely what will happen in the MCU.

“I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, to work with you both, and to make magic together,” said Boseman at the official event. And it seems we can get our first glimpse at the Black Panther costume thanks to some incredible new concept art.

After coming under fire for their lack of diversity, it looks as though Marvel Studios is making real strides to even out the balance… and with Captain Marvel heading to the big screen, it seems that diversity really is the name of the game in Marvel’s Phase Three.

Of course, this is huge news for Black Panther fans, and it seems there’s already great enthusiasm for the ‘Black Panther’ movie. But will it be any good? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
