'Chaos Walking' trailer: Daisy Ridley hears Tom Holland's thoughts in delayed blockbuster
Watch: Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland star in the Chaos Walking trailer
Chaos Walking has finally unveiled its first full trailer, lifting the lid on Doug Liman’s big screen take on the YA series.
Patrick Ness adapts his own first novel, The Knife of Never Letting Go, for the movie, which follows a mysterious young woman who crashes on a planet where the women are dead and the men’s thoughts are broadcast to all around them.

Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley plays the new arrival Viola, with Tom Holland as Todd — the man who befriends her and keeps her safe when danger inevitably arises.
The cast also includes Mads Mikkelsen, Cynthia Erivo, Nick Jonas, David Oyelowo and Demián Bichir.
The trailer depicts Viola’s arrival on the planet New World and introduces the audience to “the Noise”, which leads to male thoughts being expressed as a very external monologue.
There’s plenty of spectacle on show, plenty of running through forests and some ambitious CGI to feast your eyes on — even if the plot doesn’t quite seem to make sense.

Notoriously, the film was reportedly deemed “unreleasable” when its initial cut was first put in front of test audiences.
However, social media users — particularly fans of the books — were impressed by this first look at the finished product.
This trailer is so much better than I was expecting. I feel like this could potentially have the success of the Hunger Games films. Especially with three books to adapt. Tom Holland as well 😍 #ChaosWalking pic.twitter.com/8OeN3haBtL

#ChaosWalking has a trailer but what is this movie trying to be? There's so much going on in this trailer!
Hopefully the narrative of the full movie makes this work. But this trailer feels like there's too much going on. https://t.co/ycBadui6Jt— Talking SMAC (@TalkingSMACpod) November 19, 2020
It has been a long journey for Chaos Walking to get to the big screen, with principal photography taking place way back in the summer of 2017.
After the infamous “unreleasable” cut was screened, Liman and his team were sent back to the drawing board to set up reshoots, which proved difficult given the packed schedules of in-demand stars Ridley and Holland.

The reshoots were finally able to take place in April and May 2019, with Evil Dead reboot director Fede Álvarez assisting Liman to get the movie over the line.
Chaos Walking is currently due for a January 2021 release in the USA, with no UK date officially confirmed.
