Yahoo Movies Charlize Theron addresses The Old Guard 2's long release delay
Charlize Theron has addressed The Old Guard 2's long release date delay.
The sequel to the 2020 Netflix movie has been in the pipeline for a while, having wrapped filming around two years ago – though a launch date is yet to be confirmed.
Speaking in a new interview, Theron explained that the wait is partly down to Netflix going "through quite a changeover" in the last few years.

“We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it,” she told Variety. “They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it. We finally picked it back up and I’m really excited about it.”
The Oscar-winner suggested that the sequel is “really good,” adding: “It’s a really important film to us. I only wanted to do it if we could make it amazing. I really love this movie.”
These echo similar comments by fellow star Matthias Schoenaerts earlier this year, who told Collider: "As far as I've understood, I think there's been a switch at Netflix high up.
"I think there's a different CEO, so that leads to a reconsidering of release, and how and when, and that's not up to me. I don’t know."

He added: "But I know we’re hitting the last stage of post-production, so it’s gonna show up at some point."
The Old Guard is based on the comic of the same name by Greg Rucka, and follows a group of immortal mercenaries. As well as the return of Theron as Andy, the sequel has added Uma Thurman and Henry Golding to the cast.
The first movie quickly became one of Netflix's most-watched movies ever upon its release in summer 2020.
