Charmian Carr, Liesl From The Sound Of Music, Dies At 73

The actress Charmian Carr, best known for her role as Liesl Von Trapp from the musical ‘The Sound of Music’, has died at the age of 73.

Her family confirmed that she died in Woodland Hills, California, following a battle with a rare form of dementia.

Carr played the eldest daughter of the Von Trapp family, famously singing the song ‘Sixteen Going On Seventeen’, though she was was in fact 21 when she won the role, starring opposite Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

Despite becoming a star in the hit 1965 movie, which featured music from the legendary Rogers and Hammerstein, she only appeared in one other film, ‘Evening Primrose’ with Anthony Perkins the following year.

She quit the movies, instead launching her own interior design firm, with Michael Jackson, who was a huge fan of the movie, being one of her clients.

Latterly, she wrote two books about her experiences in the movies, ‘Forever Liesl’ in 2001, and ‘Letters To Liesl’ in 2002, which was inspired by the thousands of fan letters she received.

She is survived by her siblings Sharon, Darleen, Michael, and Brian; daughters Jennifer and Emily; a niece Julie; and grandchildren Emma, Derek, William, and Tucker.
