Christopher Nolan is being given a ridiculously big budget for 'Tenet'

Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s upcoming action thriller, is one of the most anticipated movies of 2020.

But despite the release of its trailer last month, audiences are still very much in the dark about what will actually happen in Tenet, especially since most of its action sequences appeared to have been omitted from the clip, too.

At least we’re now beginning to get a better idea of the size and scale of the blockbuster, because Collider is reporting that Nolan was given a budget of around $205 million to make Tenet.

What’s even more extraordinary, is that Warner Bros will have to spend at least another $100 million to market the film, too.

Nolan is one of the few director working today that could request such a large budget for an original idea. As well as the monster success of his Batman trilogy, which grossed just under $2.5 billion worldwide, Inception, Interstellar, and his most recent movie Dunkirk, all made well over $2 billion combined, too.

Both Interstellar and Inception are believed to have cost around $160 million, which would make Tenet by far the most expensive of his original ideas. Although, it should be noted that The Dark Knight is believed to have cost somewhere around $180 million, while The Dark Knight Rises’s budget is estimated somewhere between $250 and $300 million, too.

All that we know about Tenet at the moment is that it is an espionage thriller that involves time travel, and revolves around John David Washington’s agent trying to prevent a threat worst than World War III. As well as Washington, the film will also star Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clemence Poesy, Michael Caine, Himsesh Patel, and Kenneth Branagh.

We’ll get to see what they actually go through in Tenet when it is released on 17 July.
