Prime Video has launched the first trailer for Coming 2 America, the long-awaited sequel to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 hit Coming To America.

Murphy stars as the newly-crowned King Akeem, who learns that he has a son in New York City — played by comedian Jermaine Fowler — about whom he was previously unaware.

With his best friend Semmi (Arsenio Hall) again in tow, Akeem returns to American in order to honour his father’s wish that Akeem groom his own son as the next crown prince.

The first trailer reveals that the Beverly Hills Cop star will again play multiple roles in the sequel, alongside returning cast members Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones.

Produced by Paramount, but acquired by Amazon in a big-money deal worth $125m (£92m), the film will stream exclusively on Prime Video from 5 March, 2021.

"My favourite part of reuniting with the cast of Coming to America," Murphy told Complex, "was making a movie that's as good as the first one. Getting everybody together, including Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, James Earl Jones and the rest of my royal family, and making a really great movie"

It’s been directed by Craig Brewer, who recently worked with Eddie Murphy on the excellent Netflix biopic Dolemite Is My Name, and boasts an all-star support cast that includes Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, and Wesley Snipes.
