Corey Feldman Thinks Goonies 2 Will Probably NEVER Get Made
Everyone knows that Goonies never say die, but one of the original Goonies seems to have done just that.
Corey Feldman, the child star who played Mouth in the 1985 classic, says the long-mooted ‘Goonies’ sequel will probably never happen despite the original film’s director Richard Donner announcing it back in 2014.
“Richard Donner is 87 years old. And it’s like, no one really wants to make it without him,” Feldman told MovieWeb, “He’s the driving force behind it. He says it’s still alive. But as we all know…When you get to that age, things slow down quite a bit. There is a big possibility that he might not want to keep driving it.
“So, I think without him, it doesn’t happen. And every day that passes, that he doesn’t do it, there is less and less chance that it is ever going to happen at all.“
In 2014, Donner surprise announced a sequel was coming and he hoped to get the original cast back together.
“We’re doing a [’Goonies’] sequel,” Donner told TMZ while signing autographs, “hopefully all of them [will return].”

Getting them back together could prove quite difficult. Of the 5 original Goonies - Sean Astin (Mikey), Josh Brolin (Brand), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Jonathan Huy Quan (Data), and Jeff Cohen (Chunk) - only 3 are really still in showbiz, with Quan and Cohen both retired from acting.
Earlier this year. producer Frank Marshall pored a big bucket of scorn over Donner’s “announcement”, casting doubt over the whole venture.
"It’s in discussion,” Marshall told MovieWeb about a proposed follow up, “[Richard Donner] talked to us about it, and we’ve talked to him. It’s all about the story. We don’t just do sequels to do them. The story has to be there. That’s very important. You don’t want to disappoint the fans by just doing a schlocky movie. You want to do a real legitimate movie. It’s not going to be a sequel. In the Amblin spirit of Goonies, that’s what has to be.”
