Dakota Johnson Slates 'Ageism' Facing Her Mother Melanie Griffith

Dakota Johnson has described the situation facing ageing actresses like her mum Melanie Griffith and grandmother Tippi Hedren as ‘f**king brutal’.

In a no-holds-barred interview with Vogue magazine, the 'Fifty Shades of Grey’ star took the movie industry to task over its ageism.

“Why isn’t my mother in the movies? She’s an extraordinary actress.

“Why isn’t my grandmother in the movies? This industry is f***ing brutal,” said the 26-year-old.

Griffith is now 58, while Hedren, once a muse for movie legend Alfred Hitchcock, is now 85.

Hedren is still working in Hollywood, though less frequently, last appearing in thriller 'The Ghost and the Whale’.

Johnson, who is currently filming the next two 'Fifty Shades of Grey’ sequels, 'Fifty Shades Darker’ and 'Fifty Shades Freed’ back to back, also admitted that her family name – she’s also Don Johnson’s daughter’ – didn’t hinder her career.

“Do I think it [her famous name] opened more doors? Yeah. More people know my name,” she said.

The two new 'Fifty Shades’ movies come off the back of 2015’s debut adaptation of E.L. James’s erotic best sellers.

Despite critical derision, the movie made an impressive $570.5 million at the box office from a modest $40 million budget.

Director Sam Taylor-Johnson will not be returning for the sequels, however, with 'House of Cards’ helmsman James Foley taking over behind the camera.

'Fifty Shades Darker’ will be out on February 10, 2017, with 'Fifty Shades Freed’ on February 9, 2018.
