Daniel Radcliffe Won’t Rule Out Returning As Harry Potter
Daniel Radcliffe has gotten some fans over excited after he revealed he could return as the iconic Harry Potter one day, but is still happy to pass to the baton.
While attending the Deauville Film Festival, Radcliffe, now 27, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and shared his thoughts on a question he’s likely been asked a thousand times: would he return to the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.
“I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do,” the British actor said, which no doubt got a lot of Potter obsessives’ hearts racing.
So when he was asked about potentially filling the role of the older, adult Harry - as per what we see in the recent stage show ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ - Radcliffe was frank in his answer: “At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it.”
And in truth there’s nothing to say that the current, and hugely popular, theatre production written by J.K. Rowling wouldn’t at some point be green lit as a movie. In fact, there’s every chance we will see a big screen version of the show simply due to its success and ever-thriving fan base.
While the idea of him reprising such an important role would be a welcomed one, Radcliffe couldn’t help but wonder how such a return would be perceived, as he compared it to another huge, long-lasting fantasy franchise.
“There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched. If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was to the original ‘Star Wars’, but there’s also the chance that we’d make ‘Phantom Menace’. So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”
And it’s true; imagine if he took on the part as an adult and, for whatever reason, it didn’t work? Fans would never forgive him and his experience as the boy wizard would be ruined forever.
However, removing himself from such a mouthwatering return, Radcliffe stated that he’s more than happy to see other actors play the role, as Jamie Parker does. “I’m never going to close that door, but I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it.”
Hogwarts fans will no doubt be keeping their fingers crossed for his comeback but aside from casting a spell, it does see that Daniel Radcliffe has moved on as he tries to establish an acting career away from any Potter association.
