Dark Knight Rises screening gets shut down

Early screening of the new Batman movie dogged with problems

One of the first ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ IMAX screenings had to be shut down on Friday after the film’s picture and sound fell out of sync.

Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie was being showcased to the US press but had to be cancelled an hour into the movie when the computer device that syncs the picture and sound broke.

Interviewers, local press, and members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association were left fuming as the VIP audience was told to leave without having seen the full movie.

An IMAX representative confirmed that “the movie started promptly at 7pm but at about 8.15pm, as a new reel began, the dialogue between Christian Bale and Michael Caine was clearly out of sync - with a full five to 10 second lip-flap after lines were spoken.

“After a few minutes the crowd shouted for a projectionist. The movie was stopped and the lights went up. After 20 minutes the man came out again and said the sync computer had failed and could not be rebooted.”

Reporters were asked to return to see the film the next day, but apparently Warner Bros demanded that everyone see the movie in its entirety and not just from where it left off.
