Deadpool Spoofs Trump With MTV Movie Awards Image

Trust the ‘Deadpool’ team to get creative - and more than a little sarcastic - in promoting the film’s eight nominations at the upcoming MTV Movie Awards.

Ryan Reynolds shared the image (a send up of presidential candidate Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan) on Instagram, noting, “I bet it feels huge in this hand.”

Since its release in February, ‘Deadpool’ proved a runaway success, breaking new ground for R-rated superhero movies and becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever in the process.

Even so, it seems doubtful the film will make too great an impact once the ‘proper’ 2016 awards season comes around. Still, as a real crowd-pleasing movie, it’s only right it should get a lot of attention at the MTV Movie Awards, in which votes are cast by the general public.

Reynolds himself is nominated in no less than five categories: Best Male Performance, Best Action Performance, Best Comedy Performance, Best Fight with Ed Skrein, and Best Kiss with Morena Baccarin.

Baccarin is also nominated for Best Female Performance, whilst Skrein is nominated for Best Villain - and of course, ‘Deadpool’ is nominated for Movie of the Year.

Still, it remains to be seen how well it will fare against ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ which leads the way with 11 nominations.

Hosted by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, the MTV Movie Awards take place tomorrow, 10 April.
