This 'Split' fan theory could be a major 'Glass' spoiler
A brilliant Split fan theory has landed on Reddit and it’s too good not to share.
Be warned, this plotline – if the theory is correct – might be resolved in Glass (which is M Night Shyamalan’s follow-up to Split and Unbreakable), so it probably counts as a spoiler for that too.
The theory revolves around the idea that Split’s lead Casey (Anna Taylor-Joy) is actually Kevin (James McAvoy) – she’s one of his many multiple personalities. There’s a whole load of evidence and it’s all the work of Reddit user u/tehsideburns.
The Redditor says they think director M. Night Shyamalan overtly signposted the twist throughout the 2016 thriller, so much so, that it would all be revealed during the film’s final act.
“[It’s] a plot twist I thought was so obvious, I just assumed there was going to be another post-credit scene to reveal everything,” they write.
“Everything I saw throughout the entire film supported this theory – that Casey IS Kevin – and I couldn’t find anything to directly contradict it.”
The theory begins with a moment in the very first scene in the film where Kevin kidnaps three girls in a car park. He anaesthetises two of his victims but not Casey. “I thought it was so obvious that the girl in the front seat was just another one of his personalities, and that the end of this film was totally going to have a fight club / primal fear moment.”
James McAvoy’s character’s name is Kevin Crumb, so his initials are K.C., which phonetically is Casey.
“If you pay real close attention,” they add, “the cinematography separates Casey from the other girls in almost every scene. Especially in the room with two twin beds. I caught shots in their early captivity where they seem to be afraid of Casey when they’re talking to her.”
