The spookiest month of the year is upon us, and so it's little surprise to see that the original movies and TV shows coming to Disney+ in October reflect the darker side of entertainment.
American Horror Story is back for a new season, The Muppets are starring in a special film themed around the Haunted Mansion ride, and even the world of LEGO Star Wars is taking a horror-inflected left turn.
On the archive front, cult 1970s musical hit The Rocky Horror Picture Show is arriving via the Star platform, along with one of the best horror films of recent years in wedding night slasher Ready Or Not.
Here's everything coming to Disney+ UK this month...
Original movies coming to Disney+ UK in October 2021
LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales (1 October)
Set after the events of the Skywalker Saga, this animated anthology tale follows Poe and BB-8 as they make an emergency landing on the lava planet Mustafar, which Graballa the Hutt has turned into a luxury resort.
While waiting for ship repairs, Poe is led into the castle by Darth Vader's servant Vaneé, who tells a series of spooky stories. But are the stories a smokescreen for a sinister plot?
Black Widow (available to all subscribers from 6 October)
Black Widow has been available via Premier Access on Disney+ for several months now, with the studio utilising a day-and-date release strategy alongside the movie's cinema bow. Now that the theatrical window is over, all Disney subscribers can experience Scarlett Johansson's MCU swansong, which finally gives Natasha Romanoff the spotlight — and also introduces a future Marvel megastar in the shape of the scene-stealing Florence Pugh.
Muppets Haunted Mansion (8 October)
There are few things more joyous than a new movie from The Muppets. This special has a Halloween spin, drawing inspiration from the famous Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland parks. The core idea follows Gonzo and Pepé the King Prawn as they agree to spend the night in the most terrifying place on Earth, but there are plenty of appearances from other Muppets characters.
There's added intrigue in the fact that this features one of the final performances of the beloved Ed Asner, who passed away in August.
Under Wraps (8 October)
In the 1997 Disney Channel movie Under Wraps, a group of children befriended a clumsy mummy they discovered in the basement of a house. The studio is set to follow a similar story in this new remake of the movie, directed by Alex Zamm, who has previously made films in the Tooth Fairy and Beverly Hills Chihuahua franchises.
Books of Blood (Star, 29 October)
After debuting via Hulu in the USA last year, this adaptation of Clive Barker's horror anthology spins a trio of creepy stories which mingle together in space and time. Anna Friel and Britt Robertson are among the cast members, with veteran Star Trek showrunner Brannon Braga in the director's chair.
Given the brain of Clive Barker was responsible for the original story behind Candyman, expect scary things from this one.

Among the Stars (6 October)
Captain Chris Cassidy first made it into space in 2009. More than a decade later, and after several years as Chief of the Astronaut Office at NASA, he wants to get back into his spacesuit and explore the final frontier once again. This documentary serves as a fly-on-the-wall portrait of how NASA works behind the scenes, with cameras on Earth and also in space.
Hip Hop Uncovered (Star, 6 October)
This series delves deep not only into the history of hip hop as a musical genre, but also its place in popular culture and the ways it has been both lauded and vilified over the decades. The documentary features contributions from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ice-T and Dr Dre.
Just Beyond (13 October)
The world of RL Stine has inspired a lot of film and television in recent years, from the Jack Black-starring Goosebumps to the recent Fear Street trilogy of slashers on Netflix. This anthology series, based on Stine's graphic novel, was created by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith. He has compared the series to The Twilight Zone, which surely bodes well for chills and thrills aplenty.
Reservation Dogs (Star, weekly from 13 October)
This half-hour comedy series set in rural Oklahoma was created by Native American filmmaker Sterlin Harjo with Taika Waititi. D’Pharoah Woon-A-Ta, Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis and Lane Factor play indigenous teenagers who are willing to do just about anything to make their dreams come true and move to California.
With a roster of Native American voices on both sides of the camera, this is spotlighting valuable diversity while delivering comic fun.
American Horror Story: Double Feature (Star, weekly from 20 October)
A decade after Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk introduced the world to Murder House — the first season of American Horror Story — the anthology horror stalwart is back with its 10th dark, twisty tale. This season, entitled Double Feature, is due to be delivered in two parts. Red Tide takes place "by the sea", and Death Valley takes place "by the sand".
Stalwart cast members Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and Frances Conroy are back in new roles, with Macaulay Culkin joining the ensemble as one of the most high-profile new additions.
Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Black Widow + What If...? (20/27 October)
Marvel continues to deliver behind-the-scenes specials for its new films and TV shows, with Black Widow and What If...? in the spotlight this month. Black Widow will follow Scarlett Johansson as she prepares for her final outing in the role she has played for more than a decade, while What If...? explores the MCU's first foray into animation, as well as the limitless storytelling potential of a world outside of established canon.
