Disneyland to debut life-sized acrobatic animatronic Spider-Man

The new Avengers Campus at Disneyland in California will feature an animatronic Spider-Man, which will swing above visitors to the amusement park.

DisneyParks unveiled the plans for the sophisticated, multi-jointed model yesterday.

It will be fired into the air, and thanks to some pretty impressive articulation, will be able to perform all manner of Spidey-like moves as it glides over the crowds.

According to the DisneyParks blog, it will also be wearing a new suit, designed by Ryan Meinerding, Marvel's head of visual development.

The park posted video of the impressive model in action to YouTube, giving a taster of what visitors will see.

The attraction will be part of the World Engineering Brigade, or WEB, section of the Avengers zone, and will be online by the summer.

Also debuting will be the Pym Test Kitchen restaurant on the Campus, which will feature super large and super small foods, as well as 'heroic encounters', with heroes like Black Widow, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Thor, Loki and Iron Man.

As for what's happening next for the actual Spider-Man, news broke last summer that talks between Sony – which owns Spider-Man – and Disney's Marvel Studios had broken down.

But it's since emerged that Tom Holland's Peter Parker will be back in the MCU, following a drunken chat with Disney boss Bob Iger.

The so-far untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home is slated for 2021.
