Dwayne Johnson has once again been named the highest paid actor in Hollywood.

Johnson nabbed $89.4m (£73.6m) in the period from 1 June 2018 until 1 June 2019, including his formidable blockbuster film portfolio and lucrative deals with companies including sports clothing brand Under Armour.

The former professional wrestler was toppled from the summit of the 2018 edition of the list by George Clooney, but has returned to the top spot this year, according to Forbes.

Johnson’s earnings have actually fallen in 2019 from the $119m (£98m) total he amassed last year but, as Clooney’s total was down to the sale of his tequila company, the Ocean’s 11 star has fallen from the list completely.

The man formerly known as The Rock, however, continues to bring in plum payments for his major franchise work.

He is now a lynchpin of the Fast & Furious franchise and is set to net an enormous $23.5m (£19.3m) for upcoming adventure sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, as well as his $700,000 (£576,000) per episode bill for starring in HBO comedy series Ballers.

Unsurprisingly, the stars of Avengers: Endgame feature heavily on the list as a result of the movie becoming the highest-grossing cinema release of all time.

Chris Hemsworth lands in second place with $76.4m (£62.9m) for the year, while Robert Downey Jr. is third with $66m (£54.3m).

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and martial arts legend Jackie Chan complete the top five.

Sixth place is a tie between Adam Sandler, who continues to make popular comedy outings with Netflix, and Bradley Cooper, whose total is partly due to Avengers: Endgame, but also benefits from the success of glittering musical A Star is Born.

Marvel stars Chris Evans and Paul Rudd land in eighth and ninth with Will Smith completing the list, pocketing $35m (£28.8m), largely for his divisive work as the genie in Aladdin.

The list of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood is due to be released later this week.

Scarlett Johansson topped last year’s list with $40.5m (£33.3m) and, given the success of Endgame, she may well repeat that feat.
