Early Doctor Strange reactions hail Marvel's trippiest film yet
The first press screenings for Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ have taken place in LA and Benedict Cumberbatch’s superhero debut has been met with near-universal acclaim from the critics who were lucky enough to see it.
Although official reviews won’t be published until day of release (25 October here in the UK), the online movie press were encouraged to tweet their reactions, and while no-one has been brave enough to name it Marvel’s best, most have praised the film’s psychedelic stylings with Mashable’s Josh Dickey claiming “DOCTOR STRANGE [sic] magic makes HARRY POTTER’s look like parlour tricks.”
Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Stephen Strange – the brilliant surgeon who turns to the occult when a car accident leaves him unable to work – has also been hailed as “fantastic” in the role by Haleigh Foutch of Collider. “[Cumberbatch’s] performance anchors the whole movie,” adds Alex Welch of Screenrant.
Here’s a selection of some of the best reactions so far.
#DoctorStrange is definitely Marvel's strangest movie to date, but it's weird & wild in all the best ways. Incredible imagery, heady story

I liked DOCTOR STRANGE. The most self-contained Marvel movie in a long time. Fun visuals. Almost felt like a reboot of the first IRON MAN.

#DoctorStrange is a stunning visual achievement. A welcome blast of weirdness that opens up the MCU. Super dug it. Maybe best viewed on ????????????

#DoctorStrange has some of the best action sequences in any Marvel movie EVER.

DOCTOR STRANGE is guilty of *all* the usual Marvel movie problems, but Tilda & some VERY trippy visuals make it a spectacle worth savoring.

Doctor Strange's action set pieces make an MC Escher paintings look tame. Some really great, clever, incentive stuff. Worth the 3D ticket.

#DoctorStrange isn't one of Marvel's very best, but it is still a very entertaining and visually dazzling movie with plenty of highlights.
