Echo Boomers’ Patrick Schwarzenegger: 'I’d never change my name' (exclusive)

Watch: Echo Boomers star Patrick Schwarzenegger talks to Yahoo about his famous moniker

He may have one of the most famous names in the world, but it’s something that Echo Boomers star Patrick Schwarzenegger would never change. In fact, he ‘can’t see any reason’ why he’d want to.

Talking to Yahoo Movies UK about his latest movie, the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver is in no doubt about keeping his surname as it is.

“I’m really proud of my mum and my dad and what they’ve done to make their names. I’m aiming to go on my journey, to make my own name for myself. I’m very proud of my last name,” the 27-year-old actor tells us.

He also revealed that movie making isn’t necessarily his first love: “My passion is really in the business sphere,” he says.

“As of now, I don’t have any plans to direct and the same goes for politics – but in, say, 40 years, who knows?”

His Echo Boomers co-star, Alex Pettyfer, saw this at first hand while they were on set. “What I found out when we were making the film was that Patrick is an amazing businessman, doing some incredible work in terms of technology and small businesses, so he’s branching out. I spent hours listening to this man at work and I’m not surprised he doesn’t want to direct. He’s creating opportunities through the companies that he’s forming.”

Magic Mike star Pettyfer, on the other hand, made his directorial debut with Back Roads in 2018 and his next venture behind the camera, The Phantom of Belgrade, was announced last month.

In Echo Boomers, the two actors play members of a gang of unemployed graduates who find an unconventional – and illegal – way of earning money. They steal valuable artworks from the wealthy, selling them on via their manipulative fence, played by Michael Shannon.

Despite his business interests, Schwarzenegger’s acting career is flourishing, with several new projects in the pipeline.

His next film, Moxie, has a scheduled Netflix release of 3 March. Directed by and starring Amy Poehler, the cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden and Ike Barinholtz.

Echo Boomers is out on digital download from 18 January. Watch a trailer below.
