Elizabeth Olsen 'happy to come back' to MCU 'if there's a good way' to use character
Elizabeth Olsen is "always happy to come back" to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) - if there is a "good way" to use her character.
The 35-year-old star has portrayed Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, in two 'Captain America' films, three 'Avengers' movies, 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' and the TV series 'WandaVision'.
Olsen would be up for a return if the story was right, but she claims Marvel bosses "didn't know what to do" with her alter-ego "for a second".
Speaking to FM104, she said: "It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well, and I think I have been lucky that when I started I was used well.
"I think people didn’t know what to do with me for a second there ... if there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back."
In August 2023, Olsen admitted she needed "other characters" in her life as well as Wanda.
She told The Times newspaper: "I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel.
"I don’t want ... it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character.
"But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance.
"I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can.
"But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life. There’s no longevity in one character."
Her comments come after Olsen previously advised other actors to only sign up for one Marvel movie at a time.
Speaking in May 2023 on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, she said: "Just give them one - that's what I say."
Olsen explained: "Let's say you're like, 'Oh my God, this was the most fun I've ever had, and I love this character so much I want to do it again,' you now have more creative control for the next one."
