Emilia Clarke watched Hitler videos to prep for Daenerys' final 'Game of Thrones' speech
Emilia Clarke prepped for her final speech in Game of Thrones by watching Hitler videos.
The actor’s character Daenerys Targeryen had massacred King’s Landing in the episode before, killing civilians and soldiers alike, so was looking to get into the mindset of a tyrannical dictator.
Speaking to Variety, Clarke explained her process in trying to deliver that final speech in another language with all the vigour of a genocidal oppressor who believes what they are doing is right.

“In giving all these speeches in fake languages, I watched a lot of videos of — now it seems funny — dictators and powerful leaders speaking a different language to see if I could understand what they were saying without knowing the language,” she said.
“And you can! You absolutely can understand what Hitler’s f***ing saying, these single-focus orators speaking a foreign language.
“So I thought, ‘If I can believe every single word I’m saying, the audience won’t need to be looking at the subtitles too much,’” Clarke added.
The final season of the HBO fantasy series only had six episodes, which many felt was to the detriment to the story. Clarke said that she wishes she was able to have more scene with certain characters and that they had more dialogue.

"I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Missandei," she told The New Yorker. "I would’ve loved some more scenes with me and Cersei."
"I feel like there was... The genocide was there. That was always going to happen."
She continued: "And I just think more dissection and those beautifully written scenes that the boys have between characters - that we are more than happy to contently sit there and watch ten minutes of two people talking, because it’s beautiful.
"I just wanted to see a bit more of that."
