Emma Bunton says 'Spice World' 2 is ‘not in the pipeline’ at 'Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation' event

Rumours of a Spice Girls reunion have been swirling ever since the band reformed for the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.

Although most of the excitement is around potential new music and a tour, we wanted to see if there was a sequel to the much-loved Spice World movie in the works.

Sadly, it sounds like it’s a bit of a long shot.

While attending a VIP family screening of Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation, Emma told Yahoo that it was “not in the pipeline”.

Spice World: The Movie was a number-one box office hit in the UK taking over £6.8m during its opening weekend when it was released on Boxing Day in 1997. It also did great business in the US and broke the record (at the time) for the highest-ever opening for Super Bowl weekend in January 1998.

While we were chatting, it was clear that Emma had fond memories of shooting the film.

She told us that Richard E. Grant, who played the band’s manager in the film, was “incredible to work with” and “brought so much energy” to the film.

“He taught us a lot about acting. He was brilliant, really good fun!”

Fans hoping for a Spice World sequel might not need to be too disappointed though. During our chat, Emma talked about the potential for an animated superhero film starring the voices of the Spice Girls.

“It’s just something that’s been in the pipeline for a while. It’s nothing that’s happening as yet, but I think we would love to have an animation for us. It would be good fun.”

According to Variety, “all five members of the group have signed off on their likenesses being used for a superhero-themed movie working off of the ‘girl power’ message. Each character will be voiced by a Spice Girl… and feature a “girl power” unique to that group member that reflects each girl’s personality.”

Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation is in UK cinemas from 27th July.
