Yahoo Movies The Equalizer 3 was never going to bring back original characters
The Equalizer 3 director Antoine Fuqua has revealed he never planned to bring back characters from previous movies.
The final instalment of the action trilogy, which stars Denzel Washington as retired US marine turned vigilante Robert McCall, is out in cinemas and Fuqua didn't want to look back when it came to the plot.
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he'd considered checking in with past characters, such as Chloë Grace Moretz's Alina or Johnny Skourtis' Ralphie, Fuqua explained he'd always intended to tell separate stories across the films.
"No, it was always going to be separate storylines altogether," he revealed.

Alina, also known in the film as Teri, and Ralphie both appear in the first instalment of The Equalizer. Ralphie is a security guard trained by McCall while Alina is a prostitute trafficked by a Russian crime syndicate who he befriends after a chance encounter.
After McCall tracks down and kills the leaders of the crime group, she becomes free to begin a new life.
Released at the start of the month, The Equalizer 3 has gone on to break box office record for the series after $60.6 million across its opening weekend, as well as landing the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating in the franchise.

Meanwhile, Fuqua has spoken about how the most challenging part of making the third film arose from the new location in Italy.
"The language, shooting in a difficult place like the Amalfi Coast," he explained in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy.
"Beautiful as it is, it's very complicated to get all of the equipment and everything there, but it was absolutely worth it when you look at the shots, and look at the location, it's amazing."
The Equalizer 3 is out now in UK and US cinemas.
