Ewan McGregor's Cameo In Star Wars: The Force Awakens Is Revealed

First Simon Pegg, then Daniel Craig, and now ‘Star Wars’ alumnus Ewan McGregor has been revealed to have made a cameo appearance in 'The Force Awakens’.

Yep, Obi-Wan Kenobi himself from Episodes One, Two and Three recorded some dialogue for the J.J. Abrams reboot, the director has confirmed, along with voices from Frank Oz (Yoda) and Alec Guinness (the original Kenobi) too.

Be warned, there are a few spoilers ahead…

After the movie emerged last week, fans presumed that the voice of Obi-Wan, heard at the point that Daisy Ridley’s Rey discover’s Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, was James Arnold Taylor, who voices the character on the 'Clone Wars’ TV series.

Asked on Twitter by fans if it was, indeed, him, he said that yes, it was… for a while, but he was later replaced.

The scene has also led fans to wonder whether Rey is related to Obi-Wan, but Taylor soon pointed out there’s another notable voice in there too.

Abrams has since confirmed the voice of McGregor, and also how Alec Guinness crept in there too.

“The idea of the voices was, we wanted the audience to feel – but not necessarily be presented right in your face - this idea that familiar, Force-strong voices were connecting with her. At least as well as they could,” Abrams told Entertainment Weekly.

“You do hear a little bit of Yoda. You hear Luke yelling out, ‘Nooo!’ from that moment in 'Empire’. And you hear Obi-Wan at the end say, ‘Rey … these are your first steps.

“Here’s the cool part. We asked Ewan McGregor to come in and do the line. And he was awesome and we were very grateful. He was incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voice over actor ever.”

It then emerged that producer Bryan Burk had added the word 'Rey’ chopped from the archives - taken from Alec Guinness saying the word 'afraid’.

“I said, ‘That’s cool, is that the thing from Ewan McGregor? He said ‘No, we took a line from Alec Guinness saying 'Afraid’,” continued Abrams.

“They cut it, and you hear the performance – he’s saying it the way I would have begged Alec Guinness to have said it. It is so crazy perfect.

“So when you hear Obi-Wan talk to Rey it is both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor doing the voice.”

Impressive. Most impressive.
