Exclusive: Bird Box Barcelona stars explain benefits of blindfold acting

Bird Box Barcelona stars Georgina Campbell and Diego Calva have opened up about the surprising benefit of acting with a blindfold on.

The Netflix spin-off movie from 2018's Bird Box takes place in the same timeline as the events of the original movie, but it follows Sebastián (Mario Casas) and his daughter Anna (Alejandra Howard) as they attempt to survive the post-apocalypse in Barcelona.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Georgina, who plays survivor Claire, shared about acting with a blindfold: "It's a bit of challenge, but we could see a little bit."

The Barbarian star continued: "It honestly sometimes was kind of nice because there were some scenes that I had which were emotional or you would expect someone to be crying and I was like: 'I've got my blindfold on, no one knows if I'm crying or not' so maybe it gave me an excuse not to push tears out of my eyes all the time."

Diego, who stars as Octavio in the film, added: "You move differently when you are not seeing. You are more aware of the space of everything, so acting without seeing was kind of cool and different."

Georgina has also teased that a shocking twist occurs in the film, that led her mum to "lose her mind" when she saw it.

"When you get sent scripts, they usually give you a little synopsis so usually you know what's kind of coming," she began.

"But I do remember that I saw it with my mum a couple of weeks ago, we got a screener, and my mum, her reaction, she just lost her mind. She couldn't believe it. She was so confused and then upset and then excited because it opens the film up in a completely different way."

Bird Box Barcelona is released on Netflix on July 14.
