A Family Affair: What is Netflix's new film, with Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron?
Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron are reuniting to star in a new romantic comedy called A Family Affair.
This is Efron and Kidman's third collaboration on a major motion picture, the first being The Paperboy in 2012, and the second was The Butler, which came out the following year.
A Family Affair is marketed in the trailer as "a love story for everyone and their mother" and mentions that its creators are behind the successful romantic comedy Anyone But You, which starred Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.
Netflix has already teased the new film by dropping a trailer. Here’s what we know.
What is A Family Affair about?
The movie centres on Zara Ford (Joey King), a young woman who finds out that her boss, movie star Chris Cole (Efron), is having an affair with her single mother, Brooke (Kidman).
King’s character walks in on them in bed at the start of the trailer, then screams, runs into a wall and collapses.
We are then met with a passionate love scene between Kidman and Efron in the video.
"I went a little crazy," the character played by Kidman declares. "I'm allowed, right?" Following their romantic supper in an entirely empty restaurant, King's character laments their "gross sexcapade thing," and says they're "not Jack and Rose" from Titanic.
As well as the mentioned cast members, the film also stars Kathy Bates and Liza Koshy.
When is A Family Affair out?
A Family Affair is available for streaming worldwide on June 28.
The Netflix film was initially scheduled for release in November 2023 but, because of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (Sag-Aftra) strikes, it was rescheduled for 2024.
