Fast X fans are appalled that a major spoiler has found its way online before the movie's theatrical release.

Not seen in the Fast & Furious universe since 2019 spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, it was tweeted on Friday by US news outlet The Wrap that Dwayne Johnson's Owen Shaw pops up for the tantalising post-credits sequence.

It even claimed to be an 'exclusive' report.

Soon enough, widespread outrage engulfed the comment section, as Twitter user @RyanLeston replied: "I'm SO glad I got to see this in person at the theater before reading about it online... OH WAIT."

"WOW, what a garbage way to spoil a movie that hasn't even come out yet!" and "I don't even care about these movies but spoiling this for all the fans who do is gross!" wrote @NatalieAbrams and @spencerbarrett.

Meanwhile, Digital Spy movies editor Ian Sandwell went on to argue: "The absolute worst thing about that #FastX spoiler floating around is the framing of it as an 'exclusively learned' thing when, really, they just saw the movie (or somebody they knew did). There was no investigative journalism going on there.

"You can also choose, as an outlet, to just not cover it and spread it around. If people don't care, they can find it, you don't need to regurgitate it just because, if it was kept a secret, it'd be big news."

Johnson's return to this tyre-screeching franchise is certainly surprising, given that he and Vin Diesel publicly feuded just a couple of years ago.

Fast X arrives in UK cinemas on 19 May.
