Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley has released its first look, with Eddie Murphy in character as the iconic police officer.
The fourth film in the franchise sees Murphy reprise his role as the quick-witted cop for the first time in 30 years, with the plot seeing Axel team up with his estranged daughter (Taylour Paige) to investigate corruption in the Beverly Hills Police Department.
With the film expected to be released next year, the first image of Murphy as Axel has been released (via EmpireOnline), with the picture showing the character holding his hands up as he presumably gets into a spot of bother (again!).
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke with Empire to preview the project, which sees Kevin Bacon and Joseph Gordon-Levitt join a cast including returning stars Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser and John Ashton.
“Anytime [Murphy] walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get. And it’s always pretty brilliant,” he teased. “Every day he’s there throws you back to the ‘80s.
“He [Gordon-Levitt] gets stuck with Axel and they are hysterical together. Joseph is such a great straight man for Eddie. It’s about the emotion. No matter how funny it is, how much great action it has, it’s all about the heartstrings.”
Murphy, who first played Axel in 1984, had previously revealed that numerous attempts at a fourth film had failed, with the star saying: “As soon as the script comes together, I'm doing the movie – but I'm not doing it until the script is right.
“Right now, there's a piece of a script but that's it. But we've been trying to do Beverly Hills Cop 4 for over 10 years and this is the closest we've got to it.”
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley currently has no release date.
