Furiosa confirms streaming release date

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has confirmed its US streaming release date.

The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel film will be available for Max subscribers to watch from August 16. A UK streaming date hasn't been announced yet, but it can be purchased or rented from digital retailers like iTunes, Amazon, etc.

The film was critically acclaimed for its performances from Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, as well as its creative action sequences brought to life by director George Miller and the talented crew, but wasn't a big performer at the box office.

On a production budget of $168 million (not including marketing and distribution costs), the film made just $172.8 million during its cinematic run.

Speaking to Digital Spy a few months back, Miller discussed the possible future of the franchise, including a previously mentioned movie called The Wasteland bridging the gap between Furiosa and Fury Road.

"I've speculated what happens after Furiosa ascends to the top of the Citadel, but I haven't got those stories mapped out at all yet. There's a lot to tell yet with the Mad Max story," he told us, while adding that the possibility of further movies is down to Furiosa's financial performance.

"I can never predict any one of these. If Furiosa does well enough and we've got the appetite for it, we'll move forward."

While promoting the film, Taylor-Joy revealed that there was an alternate ending shot that's even more gruesome than what we see in the final edit, and that she got given a prop from this alternate scene to keep.

Furiosa is available for rent and purchase on digital retailers now, and comes to Max on August 16.
